Executive Coaching
Helping leaders thrive through change…
The movement of an executive from one role to another is a challenging time, not only in their own career, but in the ongoing success of an organisation. Of the hundreds of such executive transitions happening daily across the world, McKinsey in 2013 noted that 40% are declared failures after 18 months.
This means that the executive is not delivering the performance that was expected when they were placed in the role, leading to lower results, reduced employee engagement and greater staff attrition.
In contrast a strong transition plan with effective coaching support allows leaders to get up to speed quickly and deliver much greater value for their businesses.
We work with executives transitioning into senior general management roles to understand the context of their transition and the specifics of the business challenges they face, whether these relate to leadership capability and organisational culture, or externally with markets and customers. We facilitate leaders’ engagement with the differences in scope, scale and knowledge that are required to perform in their new role.
At the most senior levels, great leaders need to possess the core capabilities that make all leaders effective. These include the ability to think strategically, to communicate inspirationally and engage effectively with all stakeholders.
However, the way these skills are implemented most effectively is dependent on a leader’s context both functionally and culturally. We work with managers to expand beyond their functional background, to become true leaders that can guide and move a whole organisation.
We prepare leaders to lead across cultures. As local businesses begin to expand regionally through ASEAN, and globally, their managers need to comfortably and confidently engage with colleagues and employees from different countries and cultures. Our programmes help leaders take on the new roles being opened up as their organisation expands. This requires not only personal growth and core leadership skills but also the ability to understand and manage cultural differences.
When Entrepreneurs find get their organisations to a point of rapid growth and find themselves leading many times more people than they are used to, they face one of the key transitions in their leadership journey, from Maker to Leader. This transition requires a profound shift in both thinking and behaviour.
We work with start-up leaders confronting this transition to engage with the changes effectively and come out on the other side as proficient leaders with the skills, capabilities and self-awareness to continue growing their organisations.
This process takes a significant level of self-awareness and our coaching process integrates leadership capability building with mindful self-reflection to help leaders access their best selves, which means that not only do they expand their leadership capability, they also engage with the values and perspectives that underly successful authentic leadership.
Leaders today face a myriad challenges as they navigate their roles in organisations both big and small. In order to truly have an impact, Leaders need to not only have specific business skills back to be self-aware enough to understand their own strengths and weaknesses and engaged these effectively. Without self-awareness, business capability tends to hit a ceiling at a certain point and there is little scope for further growth.
Thus we understand that self-awareness is core to both personal development business performance and this is embedded into our leadership programs as much as our coaching engagements. This may take the form of guided individual self-reflection, personal history reviews, leadership journeys or a variety of other tools and processes. As part of the process of developing self-awareness it is important to engage with our purpose and become authentic in our leadership. Becoming mindful, and taking care of our emotional and physical well-being, are also fundamental to successful leadership.
